Description
Sharps Model 1851 Sporting Rifle. Serial no. 1118, .44 percussion caliber, 26 ¾-inch octagonal barrel with blade front and squirrel ear rear sights. Unmarked tang-mounted peep sight. Blued barrel and breech. Case-hardened lever, receiver, hammer and tangs. Varnished walnut stock. Pewter fore arm tip. Base of fore arm with inspector's A. Barrel is serial numbered to the gun. Right side of breech marked: EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / 1845. Upper tang marked: C SHARPS / PATENT / 1848. Approximately 10 lbs.Condition: Fine. Barrel retaining approximately 70-80% original blue fading to an attractive plum brown. Vibrant case colors. Stock fine showing normal dents and fine scratches. Bore fine. Action very good.
