The Colt Model 1877 "Bulldog" Gatling Gun stands as a remarkable innovation in the evolution of rapid-fire weaponry. Designed by Dr. Richard J. Gatling and manufactured by Colt, this model introduced several advancements that set it apart from its predecessors. The "Bulldog" was notable for its compact design and the enclosed housing, which protected the gun's mechanisms from debris and damage, enhancing its reliability in various conditions. Its high rate of fire made it a formidable presence on the battlefield, capable of delivering sustained firepower. Capable of firing up to 800 rounds per minute, depending on operator's cranking speed. See, The Gatling Gun by Paul Wahl & Don Toppel, from pages 78 on for information on the "Bulldog".

Condition: Fine. Sharp markings. Appears to be mechanically sound. Bronze and brass with mellow patina, light marks and nicks. Nice example of a very rare and historic Gatling Gun. Some minor nicks along edges of the wooden boxes.?
