Description
Remington-Hepburn No. 3 Match Rifle. Serial no. 5517, .38-40 caliber (38. 2 1/4 marked under barrel), 34-inch octagonal barrel with front and rear sight. Blued finish with case-hardened frame. Set triggers. Pistolgrip checkered walnut stock (no cheekrest present) with nickel-plated pronged Schutzen style buttplate. Smooth walnut fore-end with metal cap. Left side of action marked: Hepburns Pat. / Oct. 7th 1879. Note: According to Flayderman's, right side of action should be marked with Hepburns patent. Barrel marked: E. Remington & Sons Ilion N.Y. Manufactured between 1883-1907. Condition: Good. Retaining 10-20% blued finish on barrel with balance turning to a plum brown patina overall. Faint traces of case-hardening remain on frame. Wood with dings and scratches. Scattered patches of pitting, mostly on barrel and triggerguard. Action good. Bore ok.Auction Info
