    Cased 12 Gauge James Purdey & Sons Sidelock Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun with Extra Set of Barrels.
    Serial no. 15758 (ca. 1897). 12 gauge. 27-inch and 30-inch chopper lump barrels. Smooth concave narrow game ribs marked: J. Purdey & Sons, Audley House, South Audley St., London. Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth's Fluid-Pressed Steel. 27-inch barrels are marked with serial number of the gun and barrel numbers, 18774/5. 30-inch barrels marked with serial number of the gun and barrel numbers, 18568/9. Barrels with single bead. Case-hardened Beesley-patented bar-action sidelock ejector self-opening action. Double triggers. Bar-action locks. Cocking indicators with arrows. Disc-set strikers. Ball fences with beading. "SAFE" in gold on top tang. Blued top lever. Action engraved with very fine foliate scroll and bouquets. Underside marked: Purdey's Patent. Blued triggerguard with fine bold scroll and serial number. Replacement finely checkered straight grip stock of well-figured walnut with areas of fiddleback. Drop points. Checkered butt. Silver oval with initials, ABC. Finely checkered splinter fore-end with Anson-type release. Fore-end iron with initials JH on top. The gun was number 1 of a pair. Later brown leather trunk case with brass hardware and leather corners. Maroon baize interior and later maker's label with Queen Elizabeth's warrant. Case stamped: Abercrombie & Fitch / Made in England. Wooden two-piece cleaning rod. Nickel plated muzzle stopper. Maker's snap caps. A&F marked nickel plated oil bottle. Cans of Parker Hale Rangoon Oil and Browning gun oil.

(Cylinder/Improved Modified). Chambers: 2 3/4 inches. Proof: London Nitro 12, 12, 1 1/8 maximum. Note: The gun is out of proof due to lengthened chambers. Minimum wall thickness: 0.025/0.020 inches. Stock dimensions: Pull: 15 1/4 inches. Drop at comb: 1 1/2 inches. Drop at heel: 2 1/16 inches. Cast: None. Weight: 7 pounds, 1 ounce with 27-inch or 30-inch barrels.
    Provenance: According to the maker's records serial no. 15758 was" finished in 1896 for a Mr. Sorchan. 12 bore 30" barrels bored Cylinder and Modified Hammerless ejector gun. Intercepting safety. 14 1/4 inch stock. Weight 6 pounds 15 ounces. Extra 27 inch barrels bored cylinder and modified".
    Condition: Excellent, as refinished. 27-inch barrels show 96-98% reblued finish with wear at muzzles and some thinning from carry wear at the sides. 27-inch barrels show bright bores. 30-inch barrels show 98-99% reblued finish. Left barrel shows a slight dent on the underside towards the muzzle and a very small (1/16 inch by 3/8 inch) patch of corrosion on the side of the right barrel. Both barrels have a well-defined ring. Action shows a silver patina with a few slight stains on the watertable. Crisp trigger pulls. Ejectors function well. Reblued triggerguard shows 98% finish. Recoated stock shows a very few light marks. Butt shows some losses to the checkering at the toe. Recoated fore-end shows a number of light marks and a small chip at the rear next to the fore-end iron. Case in good condition. Exterior shows scuffing and tears to the edges and the corners. Two leather corners and the handle are missing. Remains of an orange sticker on the bottom of the case. Interior is in fine condition.
