Description
Virginia Manufactory - Austrian Composite Musket Likely Assembled for Confederate Use. The gun appears to have seen service in its current configuration, with dark untouched patina overall. 43" .69 caliber smooth bore barrel marked "Henrico" on the top, the lock marked "Virginia Manufactory" in the center and "Richmond / 1806" at the tail. The stock and furniture all appear to be from an Austrian .69 caliber musket, although skillfully fitted/meshed with the Virginia Manufactory parts. The butt stock bears an Austrian proof with 1833 date with Austrian proof marks visible on several other pieces. Absolutely unique in our experience but its very nice totally untouched 'in the black' condition would certainly imply that it is a musket assembled a one of the Confederacy's armory's or arsenals for reissue to Confederate troops. Appears to be 'as assembled' during the period down to the original and apparently correct ramrod.Auction Info
