Description
U.S. Harper's Ferry 1858 Maynard Percussion Rifle.Unserialized, .58 caliber, 40-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. V / P / (eagle head) proof marks to left side of barrel. Lock marked: 1858, (eagle head) and U.S. / HAPERS FERRY. Smooth walnut full-stock. Three barrel bands, each stamped: U. Sling swivels and leather shoulder sling. Tulip head metal ramrod. U.S. marked metal carbine butt.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scattered dings, scuffs and bruises present to wood. Action good. Moderately pitted bore. Leather showing cracking and discoloration. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
