U.S. Frankford Arsenal Conversion Rifled Musket c1857. .69 caliber, 42-inch polished steel round barrel with blade front sight integral to front barrel band. Bayonet stud near muzzle. Adjustable ladder rear sight. Upper tang stamped: 1857 and unit marked: A/F/92. Remington-made percussion lock with Maynard primer. Rear of lock is stamped: REMINGTON / ILION N.Y./ 1857 / U.S. Steel triggerguard with integral sling swivel and with inspector's initials DB. Fine grained hardwood stock. Cartouches present forward of lower tang and just behind steel backplate. Flat steel buttplate marked: US. MiniƩ ball steel ramrod. This was originally a M1816 Type 2 or Type 3 musket. It left the Frankford Arsenal as a state of the art rifle destined for U.S. Government service.

Condition: Fine. Steel with a fine, smooth gray-brown patina. Very small patch of fine pitting near breech. Maynard primer door screw absent. Stock is very good to fine with scattered dents and light soiling. Old small repair next to upper tang. Butt plate slightly proud to wood. Bright bore showing light wear.
