U.S. E. Whitney Model 1841 Percussion Mississippi Rifle.

Unserialized, .56 caliber, 33-inch barrel with fixed front and rear sights. Case-hardened hammer and trigger. Lock marked: N. HAVEN / 1850 and E. WHITNEY / U.S. Smooth walnut straight stock with sling swivels and leather shoulder sling. Two brass barrel bands, triggerguard, hinged patchbox and buttplate. Two faint cartouches to left side of stock. 73 stamped just above patchbox.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Some light olive toning to brass. Wood showing scuffs and dings. Action good. Moderately pitted bore. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
