Description

Underhammer Target Rifle.
Approximately .36 caliber, 30-inch octagonal barrel with target sights. Breech is marked: D.H.HILLIARD/CORNISH/...../N.H. Tiger maple buttstock with cheekrest, engraved curved steel buttplate and inset brass and german silver figures. Engraved serpentine hammer screw escutcheons. Engraved trigger guard. Hammer and rear sight mount marked: 292. Hardwood ram rod. D.H. Hilliard and his son George were gun makers in Cornish, New Hampshire from 1842 to 1877.


Condition: Very good. Barrel a bright, mostly smooth finish with fine pitting and signs of having been cleaned. Stock,lock and furniture are fine. Rear sight mount also cleaned and polished. Ram rod a possible replacement. Nipple is likely a modern replacement. Action crisp.
