Smith (Poultney & Trimble) Percussion Breech-Loading Civil War Saddle Ring Carbine.
Serial no. 5235 [barrel and receiver], .50 caliber, 21 1/2-inch octagonal and round barrel, with fixed front sight and rear ladder sight. Blued finish and case-hardened finish. Left side of the receiver marked: MANUFACTURED BY / AMN. M'CHN. WKS / SPRINGFIELD, MASS. and ADDRESS / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE. U.S.A. / SMITH'S PATENT / JUNE 23 1857. Saddle ring. B stamped to left side of barrel and G.P. to left side of stock. Smooth hardwood straight stock and fore-end. Metal carbine butt.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina, with scattered signs of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Triggerguard very loose, screw holes stripped and screws are present. Noticeable scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
