Rare American Half-Stock Plains Percussion Rifle Marked P.B. Comins, San Francisco. .47 caliber, 38-inch part round/part octagonal barrel with dovetailed low-profile front sight and dovetailed open rear sight. Top flat marked: P.B. Comins/San Francisco. Percussion lock marked: Joseph Golcher. Set-triggers. Varnished walnut half-stock with pewter fore-end with W.E. initials. Checkered wrist. Brass furniture and steel thimbles. German silver wedge escutcheons. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. P.B. Comins, a gun dealer and native of Massachusetts, aged 66 years and 5 months Home at 1067 Broadway near Jones Street. He died December 4, 1875.Condition: Good. Metal with rich, brown age patina and scattered light spotting and pitting. Hammer screw missing. Wood with wear, minor sliver chips on left side of fore-end and minor marks overall. Action good.
