Description

Lindsay Model 1863 U.S. Double Rifle Musket.
Unserialized, .58 caliber muzzleloader, 33-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. Breech marked: LINDSAY / PATENTENTED OCT. 9, 1860. Double nipple and double hammer action. Smooth walnut stock, with two barrel bands, two sling swivels and metal ramrod. Two faint cartouches to left side of stock. US marked metal carbine butt. According to Flayderman, only about 1,000 were produced due to them being not well received. (9A-342)
Provenance: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Sold to benefit the Museum's collections and acquisitions.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a mottled grey patina, with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Noticeable cracks to each side of stock at wrist, common in this model. Left hammer of action needs adjustment. Moderately pitted bore.
