Description
Joslyn Model 1855 "Monkey Tail" Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine.Unserialized, .54 caliber, 22 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Lock marked: A.H. WATERS & CO. / MILBURY MASS. Top of breech stamped: PATD. BY / B.F. JOSLYN / AUG 23, 1855. Saddle ring. Smooth walnut straight stock, with brass barrel band, triggerguard and buttplate. According to Flayderman an estimated quantity of 1,500, with 1,200 known sold to the US.
Condition: Good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Action frozen, hammer stuck. Lightly pitted bore.
