Description

Imported .577 caliber Percussion Belgian Made Brazilian Light Minie' Rifle. Manufactured in Liege by O. P. Drissen & Cie and marked in various places with their logo, being an anchor flanked by the letters D and C. The barrel also bears Belgian proof marks. A small brass shield with embossed eagle is affixed at the wrist, a characteristic of these rifles. The weapon actually combines characteristics of the Enfield and the French Liege Light Minie Rifle. Butt plate, trigger guard and lock screw washers are brass, while the barrel bands are iron. Missing both sling swivels and the bayonet lug, all of which appear to have been removed long ago. The rear sight also missing. Wood excellent, with just some normal burnout behind the hammer, showing honest use, with a very nice dark patina overall. Nice representative example of this attractive rifle, with the entire production apparently imported for use by Union troops during the Civil War.
