German Jaeger Percussion Rifle Presented to Colonel John Hays by The German Association.
Unserialized, approximately .60 caliber, 29-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. Top of barrel marked: V. CHR. SCHILLING IN SUHL, accented in gilt. Elaborately scroll engraved hammer, triggerguard, upper tang and lock. Lock marked: V. CHR. SCHILLING IN SUHL. Checkered and carved hardwood stock with scroll engraved nickel-silver accents and furniture. Lightly engraved badge shaped escutcheon to top of wrist with the initials JCH engraved and accented in gilt. Triggerguard inscribed: THE GERMAN ASSOCIATION TO / COL. JOHN C. HAYS 1844. Leather and canvas shoulder sling, with multiple stitched animals. Wood ramrod. Sold along with typed authentication letter signed by Dan Cullity and Herb Glass.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a mottled grey patina with noticeable signs of wear and patches of pitting. Heavy, scuffs, dings and bruises present to wood. Leather displaying cracking and discoloration. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
