Description

Full Stock Pennsylvania Rifle By John Moll 1817 56" overall with a 41" octagonal .50 caliber smoothbore barrel signed on top flat in deep script "John Moll" and "No 3 1817" in light script. Barrel is mostly smooth and dark with a few vise marks and scattered dents. The gun uses a Tryon Phila lock, barrel converted to percussion using a drum conversion. All brass furniture including 2 piece patchbox exhibiting an engraved goose motif, unembellished side plate. Maple stock with distinctive artificial striping exhibits a deep undisturbed patina. There is a small piece broken out of the stock above and forward the lock and an old repair at the toe, otherwise the stock shows scattered small dents and some wear to the striping at the wrist. A very attractive gun in untouched attic condition.
