Flintlock Rifle by H. Pratt. .54 caliber, 36-inch octagonal rifled barrel with brass front and steel notched rear sights. Barrel flat marked, H. Pratt. Floral engraved lock, with lock plate also marked, London/ Warranted. Brass fittings and patchbox, the cover of which is engraved N.R.R./No. 16. Beautiful full length hardwood stock, probably walnut with checkered wrist. Small cheekrest. Brass-tipped hickory ram rod. Henry Pratt of Roxbury and Boston, Massachusetts [1790-1880] was a gun maker of note 1832-1880. Condition: Very good to fine. Steel a smooth mottled gray-brown patina. Markings are crisp. Mellow patina to brass. Stock is fine retaining approximately 70-75% of an old varnish. Minor handling wear. Small loss behind hammer. Action functions. Dark bore with thin rifling.
