Description

Retailer Marked Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine.

Serial no. 48176 [lower tang], .44-40 caliber, 20-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened hammer, trigger and lever. Saddle ring. Brass receiver, left side marked: JUAN LOPEZ / BUENOS - AYRES. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Crescent brass buttplate with cleaning rod reservoir. Three-piece metal cleaning rod. Manufactured in 1870.
The Winchester Model 1866, often called the "Yellowboy" due to its distinctive brass receiver, is an earlier and historically significant lever-action rifle that precedes the famous Model 1873. It features the characteristic saddle ring similar to the 1873 model, which made it popular among horse-mounted riders, including cowboys, cavalry, and settlers moving westward across the United States.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with signs of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Crisp action. Bright bore.
