Marlin Model 336 Lever Action Rifle Carried in Service by Ed Gooding & Aubrey Dale Bryce, Texas Rangers.

Serial no. 6900, 30-30 caliber, 20-inch barrel. Two-line barrel address and patent dates to left side of barrel. Blued finish with wood stocks, red "E" painted on right side of butt stock. Left side of framed marked DPS-26062. Gun comes with extensive paperwork and chain of custody. 1) Property Inventory Card from DPS identifying gun by serial number and ownership as far back as 7-2-62. Clint Peoples writes "I certify that the above Rangers used this firearm while in the Texas Ranger Service." Signed and dated 2-27-73. 2) Notarized letter addressed to Mr. Charles Schreiner, III from Clint Peoples on Texas DPS letterhead stating the Marlin [identified by serial no. and inventory number] "that the above gun was carried by Ed Gooding and Aubrey Dale Bryce while serving in the Texas Ranger Service." 3) Cut out copies of previous auction, Little John's Auctions 2003 sale offering The Chas. Schreiner III Collection where this gun was offered and showing the description and photo [Lot 1024]. 4) Photocopies and newspaper articles about Gooding including memorial service. 5) His "Inactive Personnel Record and 1976 Resume [all photocopies]. and 6) Book titled; Ed Gooding, Soldier, Texas Ranger by Ed Gooding and Robert Nieman.

Edgar D. "Ed" Gooding (1924-2003) had a distinguished career in law enforcement and military service. A World War II veteran, he served with the 35th Infantry Division in France and Germany before joining the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1947. He began as a Texas Highway Patrol officer and was promoted to the Texas Rangers in 1957, serving under Captain Johnny Klevenhagen in Company A. Throughout his tenure, he worked in multiple Ranger companies, including A, C, and F, handling critical assignments until his retirement in 1983. In 2001, he chronicled his experiences in Ed Gooding: Soldier, Texas Ranger, preserving his legacy as a dedicated public servant.

Condition: Very good, gun retains most finish with scattered marks and scratches. Some areas of light pitting from storage. Wood with various nicks and bumps. Action good, bore good.
