Henry Model 1860 Repeating Lever Action Rifle.
Serial no. 6229 [top of barrel and inside buttplate], .44 rimfire caliber, 24-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear ladder sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: HENRY'S PATENT OCT. 16 1860 / MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. Brass frame. Case hardened hammer and lever. Smooth walnut straight stock. Sling swivel to left side of stock and sling eye to left side of barrel. Crescent brass buttplate with cleaning rod reservoir. Manufactured in 1864. Research and quotes with the help of Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms. According to Flayderman's, the Henry Rifle was developed from the Volcanic, and was built around the new 44 rimfire cartridge. Approximately 14,000 made between 1860-1866.

Condition: Very good. Retaining traces of finish around rear sight, the balance a soft grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. 1 1/2-inch crack to right side of wrist. Cleaning rod absent. Action good. Lightly pitted bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
