Manufactured March 1865.

Engraved Henry Lever Action Rifle.

Serial no. 8636 [barrel, left side of lower tang and stock under upper tang], .44 rimfire caliber, 24 1/4-inch octagonal barrel with standard blade front and adjustable rear sight. Calibrated to 800 yards. Standard New Haven address. Floral and Federal motifs to engraving. Dust cover present and is engraved: CHR KRAUFS. Sling loop and sling swivel present. Manufactured April, 1865.

According to Wiley in "The Historic Henry Rifle" the two preceding rifles, serial number 8634 and 8635 were issued to the U.S. Vet. Volunteers in 1865.

Condition. Fine. Barrel retaining approximately 60-70% original blue, the balance fading to a slightly mottled blue-gray patina. Stock with scattered spotting, dents and nicks. Otherwise fine. Excellent bore, very bright showing very little wear.
