    U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag Bolt Action Rifle.
    Serial no. 258945. .30-40 Krag. 24-inch barrel with later front sight and Williams rear sight. Metal parts blue; receiver casehardened. Left side of receiver marked "U.S. / MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 258945". Left side of the receiver drilled and tapped. Walnut stock shortened and retaining faint circle "P" firing proof and faint "JLA / 1899" inspector's cartouche. Metal buttplate with trap door for cleaning rod.

    Condition: Fair. Blue worn to a smooth brown patina. Traces of case color left on receiver. Stock shortened as described, exhibiting little wear. Non-standard safety lever. Lacks front sling swivel. Very good bore. Mechanically sound.
