Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag Bolt Action Rifle.Serial no. 261940. .30-40 Krag. 30-inch barrel with fixed front sight and Model 1898 rear sight. Metal parts blued; receiver casehardened. Left side of receiver marked "U.S. / MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 261940". Walnut stock and hand guard. Stock with circle "P" firing proof and "JLA / 1902" inspector's cartouche. Metal buttplate with trap door for cleaning rod.
Condition: Very good. Blued finishes worn to an even smooth, slightly mottled gray patina with traces of case color on the receiver. The stock shows wear from minor use, though the front barrel band is absent. The rifling looks strong but there appears to be significant pitting. Mechanically sound.
