Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1896 Krag Bolt Action Rifle.Serial no. 65778. .30-40 Krag. 24-inch barrel with later hooded fixed front sight and Model 1901 rear sight modified with flip-up buckhorn sights. Metal parts blued; receiver casehardened. Left side of receiver marked "U.S. MODEL 1896 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 65778". Walnut stock cut down to carbine length and bearing faint circle "P" firing proofs behind the trigger guard. Lacking hand guard. Metal buttplate with trap door for cleaning rod.
Condition: Good. Metal with mottled smooth brown patina, thin in spots. Stock with scattered light to moderate scratches and abrasions. Bore bright with modest wear. Mechanically sound though there is some play in the bolt in the closed position.
