Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1892 Krag Bolt Action Rifle.Serial no. 18948. .30-40 Krag. 30-inch barrel with fixed front sight and Model 1896 rear sight. Metal parts blued; receiver casehardened. Left side of receiver marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 18948". Walnut stock, probably a Model 1896 stock with metal buttplate fitted with trapdoor for the cleaning rod.
Condition: Good. Metal worn to a smooth dark grey patina with scattered dark spots. Replaced front barrel band in the white and lacking the securing screw. Stock heavily varnished and exhibiting scattered light scratches and abrasions. Hand guard cracked on the right side. Bore bright with moderate wear. Mechanically sound though there is a bit of play in bolt when in the closed position.
