    Sleek Jackal Amulet

EGYPT. Late Dynastic Period. 26th-30th Dynasties, circa 672-343 BC. Glass amulet of a reclining jackal. A large ancient black glass amulet mounted on a modern (19th-20th century) gold brooch pin plate. The jackal is shown reclining to left, paws forward and head raised, the eyes and inner ears inlayed with lighter-colored glass. In addition to the modern gold mounting, a narrow chain has been added around the jackal's neck. Cf. Flinders-Petrie, Egyptian Amulets, pl. XXXIX, 231g. Loss on amulet at tail, very light wear and a couple spots of reddish deposit present on glass, otherwise intact, attractive and elegant.

Ex Wolfshead Galleries and Frank Kovacs inventories, 1990s through 2007; with Edward Gans, 1960s-1980s.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
