Description

PHOENICIA. Persian era, circa 500 BCE. Wine storage / shipping amphora. A medium-sized wheel-thrown terracotta vessel 17 inches (43 cm) in height, with two high, looped side handles and tapering, conical bottom. Obviously salvaged from the sea, with considerable marine calcite, mollusk and shell encrustation. Heavily and attractively encrusted as described, otherwise intact, with custom tripod display stand.
