Description

ISRAELITE. Iron Age II, 1000-586 BC. Large terracotta chalice. Standing 7 inches (20 cm) in height, in terracotta with an elongated flute, wide foot, wide base to a large cup, 6 inches wide ( 15 cm) that opens to a large flat lip. The cup is painted in red paint, mimicking banding on stone. Rather inexpertly recomposed and repaired from fragments with hot glue, would benefit from professional restoration.

From The Living Torah Museum Collection; acquired from Time Machine Company (David Liebert).
.

This relatively large vessel is possibly an ancient Kiddush cup used in the Shabbat ritual.
