Description

EGYPT. Coptic Period, circa 600-800 CE. Large wooden comb. A particularly large and decorated example, 10 inches (25.6 cm) in length, with coarse teeth along one side and fine teeth on the other, the center decorated with dotted circles forming concentric rings around a cross, and chevrons at the corners. Cf. Exhibition catalogue, L'art copte en Égypte, 2000 ans de christianisme, Paris, 2000, p. 211, no. 255, for a similar example.
