Pair of Unmarked Scottish Percussion Belt Pistols. .53 caliber, 6 1/4-inch barrels with swelled and banded muzzles with faceted breeches. Tops of barrels engraved with thistle motifs. All steel frames engraved with floral meander. Bottom of barrels with inlaid silver panels, engraved with decorative feathered panels. Hammers engraved with flag panoplies. Left sides of grips inlaid with silver depictions of Scottish thistles, right sides of grips inlaid with silver depictions of a running horse. Ball triggers. Ram's horn pommels with threaded ball nipple pricks. Steel belt hooks and steel ramrods. Contained in a dusty rose velour-lined period walnut French style case together with unmarked single-cavity bullet mold; yellow-labeled Walker's foil-lined cap tin; ebony handled nipple wrench; horn storage cylinder, case key and brass fluted ball and powder flask. Brass escutcheon on lid reading: Lt. Col. J. P. MacIntosh/Royal Highland Regiment.
Condition: Pistols: Excellent with light age wear and patina present. Accoutrements: Good: Showing wear, pitting, dents and age patina. Case: Good: Sliver chips to liner edging, fading to interior, with light wear and blemishes to exterior. Escutcheon mounted on surface of lid, not inlet as on most cased pairs.
