U.S.Cavalry Colt Single-Action Revolver with Period Holster. Serial no. 140024, .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch blued barrel marked: COLT'S PT. F.A. MG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. Bottom of barrel with inspector's mark P and RAC. Frame marked: U.S. with two-line patent date. RAC inspector's initials on frame above serial number. Case-hardened frame. Walnut grips with notches in butt. Three additional notches in butt portion of gripstrap. Contained in modified black leather flap holster with brass closure stud.
Condition: Fair to Good. Retaining approximately 10-15% original finish primarily in protected areas. Balance a gray-brown patina. Scattered patches of moderate pitting on cylinder and recoil plate. Serial number on frame difficult to read. Serial number markings on triggerguard and butt have been obliterated. Notched grips fair to good with moderate wear throughout. Action needs adjustment. Holster poor with heavy crackling and losses. Toe is open.
According to the consignors this gun and holster have been in their Texas family for four generations.
