U.S. Marked Colt Single Action Army Revolver, Once the Property of Outlaw and Bank Robber Henry Starr.

Serial no. 95804 [D.F.C. on frame and barrel], 7 1/2-inch barrel, 45 caliber. Nickel-plated finish. Top of barrel reads COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. Right side of frame with three-line patent dates and U.S. stamp. Carved wood grips. Grips carved H E N R Y around [star]. Contained in associated brown leather holster and cartridge belt. "G" stamps under triggerguard and grip butt serial numbers. Manufactured in 1883 according to Colt records.
Gun is accompanied by the following; 1) 4 x 5 postcard size note with 1 cent stamp [canceled] addressed to Mr. Lee Kelley, Ada, Oklahoma on Sep 12, 1912, obverse reads: Perkins, Okla. / April 18, 1912. / This gun was taken from Henry Starr. when he was arrested in Colorado Springs, July 2, 1893. [signed in pencil] True statement Henry Starr Jan 6, 1920] / From the possession of Marshall William Smith, who returned henry Starr and Kid Wilson to Fort Smith, to stand trial. / Received of Lee Kelley, / $25.00, in full payment / for the gun mentioned above, A 45 cal. Colt revolver. / Chris Madsen [signed]. / Authority, / E.D. Nix., of, Chris Madsen." 2) Original Affidavit from Charles Rosamond [notarized in ARK], "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Know ye, all men, here presents, that the undersigned, Charles Rosamond, being duly sworn upon his oath deposes and states the following facts: WHEREAS, he states he is the owner of an 1883 model SA, .45 calibre Colt's revolver, serial #95804, said revolver in near mint condition. / WHEREAS, he states the aforesaid described revolver was once the property of Henry Starr, notorious outlaw and greatest bank robber of them all, having robbed two banks at the same time in the same town - Stroud, Okla. / WHEREAS: said Henry Starr was killed during a bank robbery in Harrison, Arkansas, February, 1921. That the herein described revolver was used by Henry Starr during the holdup of the Pryor Creek train in Indian Territory, 1893. / WHEREAS: he states the herein described revolver was obtained by him from Harold Stringer of Harrison, Arkansas, who in turn obtained it from the family of Clarence Beindorf of Northern Arkansas, with data from Fred Beindorf, resided north of Dover, Pope Co. Ark. / WHEREAS: he further states he has no reason to doubt the authenticity of this herein described revolver and that it once was the property of Henry Starr, originally having been the property of Belle Starr, who gave it to her husband Sam Starr and then to Henry Starr. / Chas. Rosamond" [signed]. 3) There is a typed letter that reads: The following information was supplied by Fred Beindorf, Dover, Pope Co., Ark...............in 1920 Lee Kelley bought this gun from Henry Starr, a .45 Colt. Starr said it was the gun used in the Pryor Creek Train robbery in Indian Territory, 1892 [3]. Also, that Sam Starr once owned this gun. He was married to Belle Starr and she carved the Star in the handle when she gave it to Sam. After Sam Starr was killed she gave this revolver to a cousin and Henry put his first name on the points of the star. This revolver was taken from him when he was arrested in Colorado Springs, July 3, 1893...........Harold Stringer obtained the gun from the Beindorf family and it has been in possession of the present owner for years." This letter is not dated, notarized or signed.

Condition: Fine as refinished. Retains most with small areas of wear, flaking and fine scratches. Faint tracking line present. Action good, bore ok. Grips very good as configured. Leather holster with age and handling wear, scuffs and bruising present. Please note: Postmark on postcard is contemporary and not original to 1912, added at a later time. Nelson A.
