Description

U.S. Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver.
Serial no. [5635 on frame], [31743 on triggerguard and backstrap butt], .45 caliber, 5 1/2-inch barrel. Single line barrel address reads COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. Two-line patent dates and U.S. stamp on left side of frame. Cartouches visible on both sides of grip including 1901 on left. R.A.C. inspector stamp under barrel. Faint inspector mark on lower left grip flat. Note: Interesting that this gun, serial number 5636 [on frame] is only 2 numbers away from Colt Artillery, documented, lost by Cpl. Wylie, Co D 7th Cav, 1875 as written and studied in the book, Colt Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers, a Continued Study Book by Kopec and Fenn. Also, Kopec wrote an article on serial number 5629 (7 numbers away from this one) for the Rampant Colt in the Spring of 2007 titled THOSE CUSTER CAVALRY COLTS: WHERE ARE THEY? We wish this particular gun could talk and give us its history as to where it was that day! A great gun with great potential for more in depth research.

Condition: Good to very good as configured. Overall gun, a grey patina. Slight traces of bluing near protected areas. Grips with visible cartouches marking and date, but with losses near frontstrap and dings and bruising. Mechanically sound. Bore ok.
