Smith & Wesson Early Second Model Schofield Marked Wells Fargo Single Action Revolver.
Serial no. 3983 [butt, double stamp], .45 S&W Schofield caliber, 5-inch ribbed barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued finish with smooth walnut grips. Case-hardened hammer and triggerguard. Faint US marking on butt also. W and P marking on various parts. Right side of barrel marked: W.F. & COS. EX. 365 and Schofield's patent date. Right side of grip marked A33. Cylinder marked 3983 W. Note: According to Flayderman's, "Barrels shortened to 5 inches. Sold as government surplus to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, N.Y. dealers, who in turn sold them to Wells Fargo. A desirable and colorful variation." Manufactured 1876-1877.

Condition:Very good to fine as configured to WF model. Retaining approximately 65-75% blued finish with losses and balance turning brown. Moderate wear to front, backstrap and butt. 50-60% case colors to hammer and triggerguard. Light tracking line present. Grips good with a few mars overall and light loss to left grip near the back and moderate mars and dings to butt. A33 has a double stamp to last 3. Action good, bore excellent.
