Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Company Navy Model Percussion Revolver According to Consignor Attributed to Confederate General Clement Anselm Evans.
Serial no. 12883 (on the frame under the right grip). .36 caliber. 7 1/8-inch octagonal barrel with brass bead front sight. Barrel and loading lever marked with "H" proof. Top of barrel marked "SAVAGE R.F.A. CO. MIDDLETOWN. CT. / H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17. 1856 / JANUARY 18. 1859 MAY 15. 1860". Case-hardened hammer, lever, heart-shaped trigger guard and triggers. Two-piece walnut grips. The right grip has the carved initials "CAE".

Clement Anselm Evans (1833-1911) was a Confederate Infantry General who participated in many major engagements during the Civil War including Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Petersburg and Appomattox, surviving five wounds. The revolver is sold with a copy of Robert Grier Stephens biography of General Evans titled Intrepid Warrior: Clement Anselm Evans Confederate General from Georgia. Life, Letters, and Diaries of the War Years published by Morningside House, Dayton, Ohio, 1992.

Condition: Good. Metal with an overall gray patina mixed with scattered areas of dark spots. Powder pitting to the nipples on the cylinder and on the frame around the hammer. Hole in lower portion of each grip, presumably for a lanyard. Bore dark and dirty. Mechanically sound condition.
