Rare 4-Digit U.S. Cavalry Custer Colt Single Action Army
Revolver.Serial no. 4936 [frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Top of barrel marked: - COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. -. Two-line, two-date patent and U.S. stamped to left side of frame. Ainsworth "A" inspector mark to base of barrel, cylinder, triggerguard, backstrap and base of grip. "P" stamped to base of barrel and cylinder. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1874. Accompanied by a two-page John A. Kopec letter dated August 26, 2016. Confirming the Ainsworth inspection and that it was part of Lot Five of revolvers issued to the 7th Cavalry.

Condition: Very good. Retaining traces of original finish, the balance a smooth grey patina with scattered areas of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Some minor case-colors remaining.
