Description
Issued to the 3rd Co. Volunteer Signal Corps, Used During the Spanish-American War.
Historic U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver.Serial no. 9121 [frame], 1713 [triggerguard], 4489 [cylinder] and 846 [gate], .45 caliber, 5 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued finish. U.S. and two-line, two-date patent stamped to left side of frame. An inspector's mark to base of triggerguard. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1874.
A Springfield Research Service letter from Franklin B. Mallory, Chief Researcher to consignor Palazzo dated March 3, 1988 talks and highlights the findings of this Colt Single Action Revolver, based on serial number 9121, in it Mallory states, Army Adjutant General's office show that this arm was used in 3rd Co., Volunteer Signal Corps, during the Spanish-American War. The records of that company show that revolver no. 9121 was issued first to Pvt. Joseph Perry Conklin, then to Cpl. John Percival Huntling.
It goes on to describe the service of both men and the 3rd Co. Vol. Sig Corps [a paragraph each].............. "The 3rd Co. was organized at Washington Barracks, D.C. in June 1898. They were stationed at Chicamagua, GA. Newport News, Va and New York, NY before embarking for Santiago, Cuba on Aug. 23, 1898. They served in Cuba as part of the army of occupation until May 17, 1899, when they were returned to the US. They were mustered out of service on June 22, 1899." [Photocopy of Mallory letter is included along with photocopies of "records of events" from Santiago, Cuba].

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with noticeable areas of age, handling wear and surface rust. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising to wood. Action functions. Moderately pitted bore.
