French LeMat Second Model Single Action Percussion Revolver.

Serial no. 1713 [barrel, frame and cylinder], .42 / .63 caliber, 6 3/4-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and 5-inch smoothbore round barrel. Blued finish. (star) / LM to right side of barrel near breech. Case-hardened hammer and trigger. Top of barrel marked: COL. LE MAT. 9-shot cylinder. Folding hammer to fire lower barrel. Smooth walnut grip panels. Lanyard eye.
It was developed by Jean Alexandre LeMat, a French-born Confederate officer who sought to create a powerful sidearm for military use. Combination of pistol and shotgun capabilities made the LeMat revolver versatile and well-suited for combat situations. The LeMat revolver gained prominence during the American Civil War, where it was used by Confederate officers and soldiers, including high-ranking figures such as General J.E.B. Stuart. Its firepower and versatility made it a prized weapon, particularly in close-quarters combat.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with honest handling wear, age and fine patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Moderately pitted bores.
