Factory Cased London Navy.
Fine Cased Colt Model 1851 London Navy Percussion Revolver.Serial no. 22228, .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel. The barrel address reads: ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT LONDON with arrows at either end. High polish blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, back strap and trigger guard. Case-hardened loading lever, frame and hammer. Large trigger guard. London "Crown/V" and "Crown/CP" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug ahead of the wedge and above each chamber on the cylinder. Cylinder with roll-engraved naval engagement scene and stamped: COLTS PATENT NO. 22228. Loading lever, barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, and back strap also marked: 22228. Contained in a partitioned Colt red velvet-lined factory case.
Condition: Fine with a touched up cylinder. The barrel with approximately 90% original blue with only light edge wear and minor flaking on the left side of the lug. The cylinder retains approximately 70- 80% of the blue finish and strong naval engagement scene. The loading lever, frame and hammer retain approximately 90- 95% of the vivid case colors. The trigger guard with approximately 50- 60% of the blue finish with handling wear observed on the grip strap. Back strap with a nice mottled gray age patina. Back strap and butt with traces of finish only in protected areas. The screw heads are fine, unmarked and retain most of the the niter blue finish. All of the cylinder pins are intact. Nipples with very light wear. Grips excellent retaining most of the original English style varnish. Markings and serial numbers are sharp. Action is crisp.
