Description

Fine and Exceptional Cased, Engraved and Ivory Gripped Colt Model 1849 Pocket Model Revolver
Serial number 180720/. .31 caliber, 5-shot cylinder with stagecoach holdup roll scene. 4-inch octagon barrel with brass blade front sight on blued steel base dovetailed on barrel. Top of barrel marked:

Hartford CT.
Left side of frame engraved "Colts/Patent." Scroll and border engraved by the Gustave Young shop, with coverage on the barrel, loading lever, wedge, frame, hammer, and gripstraps. Wolf head motif on each side of hammer. Hand knurled hammer spur. Blued finish, with color casehardened frame, hammer, and loading lever, and silver-plated brass gripstraps. The grips of single piece ivory.
Varnished mahogany case, lined in maroon velvet, with rare partition following lower profile of revolver. Embossed American eagle and shield powder flask, blued steel double cavity bullet mold with "31PKT" on one arm, tin of Eley Bros. percussion caps with green paper label. Green paper cover on bottom of case.

Condition Report*: Excellent. Markings and cylinder scene sharp. 95% blue, minor flaking on cylinder. 95% case hardening. Silver plating 95%, with patina. Ivory grips excellent with mellow patina. Case and accessories excellent. Appears to be unfired.
