Engraved & Inscribed Colt Navy Model 1851 Single Action Percussion Revolver.

Serial no. 79290 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt] and 9290 [lever], .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT. Etched cylinder scene. COLT'S / PATENT to left side of frame. Elaborately scroll engraved lever, barrel, frame and hammer. Scroll engraved brass triggerguard and butt. Backstrap inscribed: A. GIRARD. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1857.
The Colt 1851 Navy Revolver is one of the most iconic and widely used revolvers of the 19th century. Designed by Samuel Colt and introduced in 1850, the 1851 Navy became a staple sidearm for military officers, lawmen, and civilians alike during the American Civil War and the expansion of the American West.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with honest signs of handling wear, age and fine patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Action tight, but functions. Strong bore.
