    Early Serial Numbered Colt Single Action Revolver with Factory Letter. Serial no. 26586, .45 caliber, 5 1/4-inch barrel with single-line Hartford address. No sight. Round ejector rod button. Nickel-plated finish. Period Rampant Colt replacement hard rubber grips. Contained in later issue black Colt single action Army box with green lining and gold end label, together with cleaning brush and factory literature. Manufactured in 1876. Sold together with a Colt Factory Letter stating that this gun left the factory in a blue finish, length of barrel not listed, type of stocks not listed. Shipped to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, New York, New York, on October 7, 1876 in a shipment of 50. Remarks at bottom of letter state that if the length of barrel were not listed, it usually infers the barrel was 7 1/2-inches long, and if the type of stocks are not listed, it infers they were walnut as these were standard issue at the time. According to consignor, this gun was also once owned by a Texas Range but no evidence provided. Condition: Good as configured. Metal polished and retaining approximately 15-20% finish, primarily on triggerguard assembly and protected areas, the remainder showing grey patina. Barrel has been shortened from 7 1/2-inches. Sight removed. Triggerguard assembly slightly warped. Grips are early replacements and showing heavy wear and repairs. Action good.
