Description

Colt Third Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver.
Serial no. 18548 (all matching including wedge and lever), .44 caliber, 8-inch part round barrel with address reading: ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY. Left side of frame with: COLT'S PATENT. Brass triggerguard and grip straps. Inspector's initial G on triggerguard. Unmolested screws throughout. Smooth walnut grips. According to Wilson in "The Book of Colt Firearms" the 8-inch barrel length is rare. "A few pistols were manufactured (in serial range # 18000-19000) with 8" barrels. These are scarce variations."

Cylinder is very smooth, likely cleaned and showing only scant traces of scene. Mellow patina to brass. Light soiling at top of backstrap. Grips fine, slightly undersized. Bore is very good with scattered patches of fine pitting. Action is very smooth.
