Colt Second Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver.
Serial no. 8486 (all matching except cylinder), .44 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with brass blade front sight. Top of barrel lug marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY. Left side of frame marked: COLTS/PATENT/U.S. Cylinder has serial no. 554. Squared brass triggerguard and backstrap. Near hammer on backstrap is what appears to be an inspector's initial B. Just above this is a crudely stamped: CC. Early v-shaped main spring. One-piece walnut grips. Manufactured 1850. Property from the Estate of John R. Condition: Good to very good. Steel a smooth mottled gray-brown patina with scattered patches of fine pitting on muzzle, lug and frame. Muzzle with uneven wear. Loading lever loose. Cylinder with moderate pitting and wear. Very little cylinder scene is visible. Mellow patina to brass and showing signs of having been buffed. Grips are fine, retaining nearly all of a later applied varnish. Action good.
