Civil War Confederate States Army General
Colt 1851 Navy Model Single Action Revolver Inscribed to Texas
Ranger Volunteer Physician.Serial no. 74830 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with one-line barrel address and fixed front bead sight. Blued finish. COLTS / PATENT stamped to left side of frame. One-piece grip with carved staffed Texas flag to left side. Silver-plated gripstraps. Backstrap inscribed: PRESENTED TO DR. P.N. LUCKETT COMMITTEE OF PUBLIC SAFETY / FROM THE GRATEFUL CITIZENS OF BEXAR COUNTY 1861. Gun was featured on the cover of The Gun Report magazine, Volume 53, Number 3 in August of 2007. Along with a detailed 5-page article discussing Dr. Luckett and the revolver. Magazine is included with the lot.
Note: Philip Noland Luckett, after finishing medical school, moved to Texas in 1847 and volunteered as a physician for the Texas Rangers. He later served as general for the Confederate States Amy during the American Civil War.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina, with scattered signs of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Few minor scuffs and dings present to grips. Action crisp. Lightly pitted bore. Normal age and handing wear to magazine.
