Description
Cased, Engraved and Inscribed Colt Single Action Revolver, To Father from Ruth Mix.Serial no. 167394, 4 3/4-inch barrel, 45 caliber. Custom engraving throughout, with a nickel-plated finish. Beautiful two-piece Mother of Pearl Carved steerhead grips. Contained in wooden traveling case, blue velour lined fitted with small plaque reading FATHER FROM / RUTH MIX / JAN. 6, 1930. Ruth Mix started her acting career following in her famous dad's footsteps, she starred in various silent films in the 1920's. When she retired from acting, she became a roping artist and trick rider in her father's Wild West Show. Ruth Mix passed away in 1977 at age 65, at the time, her name was Ruth Hill.
Tom Mix made his first movie in 1909 and fought villains and rescued damsels in distress in 400 others until he retired in 1940. He then joined the Sells Floto Circus and next formed his own Tom Mix Circus and Wild West Show, touring for three years. Killed in an automobile accident while driving his Cord car near Florence Arizona. A statue of a rider-less pony marks the spot.
Condition: Fine to excellent as configured, barrel possibly cut-down, Colt letter is needed to see how gun was shipped. Gun professionally refinished at some point. Light pitting marks under finish in protected areas. Grips fine with minor wear, small chips to edges. Wooden case with normal to moderate handling wear, minor scuffs to corners. Nelson A.
