Description
Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket RevolverSerial no. 108239, .31 caliber, 4-inch octagonal barrel with 2-line New York address. High polish blued finish to barrel and lug. Case-hardened frame and hammer. Silver-plated triggerguard and grip strap. Varnished walnut grips. Very strong stagecoach scene to five-shot cylinder. Contained in period velvet-lined hardwood case with partitions. Brass hardware and key. Heart-shaped lock. Included in case: brass Colt's-marked two cavity bullet mold, Winchester cap tin, high polish blue wrench, eagle powder flask and .31 caliber lead balls.
Condition: Fine to excellent. This is a well-preserved gun with little signs of use. Barrel assembly is retaining approximately 55-65% original high polish blue, the balance fading to plum-brown. Light high point edge wear. Muted case colors. Cylinder with an even, smooth thin brown patina and very strong markings. Nipples show very little use. Safety pins mostly untouched, one slightly mashed. Generous amounts of silver plate remain showing oxidation. Grips: Excellent. Retaining all of the original varnish and slight handling wear. Case and accessories are fine showing light age wear and patina. Lock and key function perfectly. Cap tin label has faded a bit. This ensemble appears to have been together a long time being well maintained over its lifetime.
