Description

Burnett Family Items: Guns and Confederate Ephemera. A tag that accompanies this material indicates it came from the "Col. Burnett Estate" but, beyond that, we can provide no additional information beyond what is apparent. There are two guns: 1) a M1861 Navy Colt's Patent .36 caliber percussion revolver, #19758 matching, nicks to barrel and scratches to cylinder, light brown patina, housed in early 20th century holster, 2) Eli Whitney .38 caliber Percussion Navy revolver, barrel stamped "E. Whitney N. Haven", light pitting and surface rust, looseness to cylinder, one grip broken and restored, housed in early 20th century holster lacking flap. Sold with a 4.25" x 3.5" index card A.Q.S. inscribed: "'God is love.' Jefferson Davis Beauvoir, Miss. 22d March 1882" (staining in lower right corner, not affecting inscription), copies of the 1862, 1863 and 1864 Confederate "Statutes at Large" (generally in poor condition, one copy lacking titled wraps, another lacking back cover, a decent copy of the 1863 edition inscribed on the cover "From Steph. H. Dardens M.C. to Mrs. Dardens Seguin Texas", the others with extensive insect damage), and a framed family portrait under glass identified on verso simply as Wallace, flaking to glass mat, circa 1900.
