Description

Antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver.

Serial no. 187 [frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .44 rimfire, 5 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Barrel address in italic script style appears to fully read: COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. Two-line, two-date patent. Smooth replacement grips. 44 marked under barrel near cylinder pin. Based on the serial number, this gun was made in 1873 [see letter from Colt for different manufacturing date comment.]
Note: Colt's Patent Fire Arms letter from July 10, 1959 states: "Upon researching our old records, we find that your Single Action Revolver was originally sold and shipped by this company to Schuyler, Hartley and Graham, in New York City, on February 12th, 1877. Your Revolver was one of twenty-five similar models in the shipment made to the dealer listed above".....Our very old records were rather incomplete, and do not show the barrel length, type of finish or stocks fitted to these weapons......Yours truly, R.H. Wagner, Manager".

Condition: Good as configured, cleaned and partially refinished. Barrel length above not available until 1875, so gun might have replaced or cut down barrel based on the serial number, not on letter date. Gun overall has signs of heavy thinning, handling wear and patches of pitting. Grips with significant loss to left side, heavy wear overall. Marred screws. Gun is a bit wobbly. Action ok. Lightly pitted bore. Please note: triggerguard and butt serial numbers appear to be restamped.
