Rare First Year Contract U.S. Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol. Serial No. 1136, 5-inch round barrel. Colt high-polish commercial finish with blue trigger, hammer, safety lock and slide stop. Hand-checkered slide stop, safety lock and magazine catch. Type I magazine catch with early dimpled lock. Early round top rear sight. Correct lanyard loop magazine. Left side of the receiver marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY and with WPG inspector's mark above the magazine release. Right side of receiver with the serial number 1136. Left side of the slide marked: PATENTED APR. 0.1897/SEPT.9.1902. C.19.1905.FEB.14.1911 and COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A., with the encircled Rampant Colt just behind the slide serrations. Right side of receiver marked MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY. Checkered, oil varnished walnut stocks. An extraordinary pistol among the third shipment from Colt to the U.S. Army in early 1912. Model 1911 pistols are becoming increasingly harder to find in unaltered condition, a pistol in this early serial number range even more so. Condition: Good to very good. Retaining approximately 80-90% original finish worn thin on the underside of the frame and top front of the slide with finish thinning on the gripstraps. The left side of the slide has a few scratches. The slide has a few scattered small areas of brown patina. Walnut stocks worn but not abused. Mechanically crisp and with a bright bore.
